A precise guide to understanding the foundational proportions of your piece.
To measure a garment correctly, lay it out on a flat, smooth surface. Use a flexible measuring tape and measure only from seam to seam. Avoid stretching the garment so as not to alter its actual dimensions, and multiply the width measurements by 2 if you wish to obtain the total circumference.
CHEST MEASUREMENT: Extend the tape just below the armpits, from edge to edge.
GARMENT LENGTH: Measure vertically from the highest shoulder seam (next to the collar) down to the bottom hem of the garment.
SHOULDER WIDTH: Measure horizontally from one shoulder seam to the other.
SLEEVE LENGTH: Extend the sleeve and measure from the shoulder seam to the cuff.
